The suprarenal gland develops from the mesodermal cortex and ectodermal medulla. The cortex derives from the mesothelial cells between the rooth of the mesenthery and the developing gonad. During the fifth week, these cells penetrate the underlying mesenchyme, thus forming a primitive cortex. The second wave of smaller cells forms the definitive cortex around the primitive one. The medulla derives from the neural crest cells which invade the medial aspect of the cortex. |
