Optic Nerve And The Pupil

During the invagination of the optic cup, a temporary groove is formed on its inferior surface, called the choroid fissure. A hyaloid vessels enter through this fissure while the nerve fibers of the retina leave the eye primordium. In the 7th week the choroid fissure fuses, forming the round opening, the pupil. The optic stalk transforms into the optic nerve, while a portion of the hyaloid artery remains as the central artery of the retina.
